Painting God's country ...

    Cynthia Sorg Wagner
2009 Grand Wyoming Artist

In 2000 Cyndi realized her life-long dream to pursue her art full-time when she retired and moved to Riverton, Wyoming.  Born and raised in rural northern Indiana, Cyndi always treasured nature and animals.  Treks over fields and woods to her three-room grade school honed Cyndi's love and observation of nature.  Cyndi works both in her studio and en plein air (from life on location).  Her primary medium is oil on canvas or linen.

"My earliest memories include drawing and coloring anything and everything I could get my hands on.  I especially remember avidly completing a Jon Gnagy art set I received one Christmas as a child.  It taught me many principles which still serve my art experiences."

Wyoming artist Cynthia Sorg Wagner studied art at St. Xavier University near Chicago and St. Francis University in Fort Wayne, Indiana from which she received her BA degree.  Ruth Pritchard of Indianapolis was her teacher and mentor for many years.  She attends numerous workshops and classes by nationally known artists.  She studied with internationally acclaimed artist, Daniel Greene and currently studies with Jerry Antolik of Hudson, Wyoming.  She continues to attend the famous Susan Kathleen Black Foundation Workshop in Dubois, Wyoming on an annual basis.

"Painting brings me great joy.  Through light, color and motion, I convey the emotion and personality of each subject.  Often I feel that I'm not putting paint on the canvas, but rather un-covering my existing image.  What a thrill."  Cyndi is proficient in many areas of painting, yet finds portraiture of people and animals to be her favorite subjects.  Her paintings are traditional, yet painterly in style, subject matter and execution, conveying llight through use of bright and realistic colors.

In 2009 Cyndi was honored to be named the 2009 Grand Wyoming Artist by her peers in the Wyoming Artists Association.  It is a singular and prestigious acclaim awarded each year to a Wyoming artist who has shown exemplary talent and worked tirelessly for the promotion of art and artists within the State.

Cyndi has won numerous awards including Best of Shows, Best Wildlife and many first place awards among others.  She has had several paintings chosen to hang in Wyoming's Congressional offices in Washington, DC.
